Personal Protective Equipment

Many forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) are available to protect the head, eyes, face, hands, feet, and body, as well as the hearing and respiratory systems.

Workplace hazard assessments are required to be completed under the OSHA Personal Protective Equipment Standard (29 CFR 1910.132). Managers or supervisors must assess the hazards for a job task, a specific workplace, or a job title by completing a PPE Assessment Form or Standard Operating Procedure [View Hazard Assessment how-to video]. PPE is then selected based on specific hazards in the workplace.

All PPE users should complete Personal Protective Equipment online training and receive site-specific instruction on how to use and maintain the equipment.
