Confined Spaces

Each year hundreds of people are injured or die as a result of entering confined spaces that contain unknown hazards. Most of these deaths could have been prevented if the entrants had been trained to recognize confined space hazards and had followed a plan for entry into confined spaces.

The Confined Spaces Manual outlines appropriate practices, university policies and regulatory requirements that must be followed when entering confined spaces on the Iowa State University campus. Confined Space Entry training is required for all personnel prior to participating in any confined space entries and a refresher course should be taken every three years.
