Heat Cramps |
- Painful muscle spasms, usually in the legs or abdomen
- Heavy sweating

- Salt water intake (.5% solution)
- Sport drink intake (Gatorade, Powerade, etc.)
- Rest in cool environment
|
Heat Syncope |
- Brief fainting
- Blurred vision
|
- Water intake
- Lie down in cool environment
|
Dehydration |
|
- Fluid and salted food intake
|
Heat Exhaustion |
- Pale and clammy skin
- Possible fainting
- Weakness, fatigue
- Headache
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Heavy sweating
- Exhaustion
- Blurred vision
- Body temp slightly elevated

- Move victim to a cooler place
- If victim is conscious, give small amounts of cool water to drink
- Remove or loosen tight clothing
- Apply cool, wet cloths or towels to the skin
- Watch for changes in condition
- If the victim refuses water, vomits, or begins to lose consciousness, call 911 immediately

Heat Stroke |
- Cessation of sweating
- Skin hot and dry
- Red face
- High body temperature
- Unconsciousness
- Collapse
- Convulsions
- Confusion or erratic behavior
- Life threatening condition
|
- Immediately move victim to a cooler place
- Quickly cool the victim's body by removing or loosening tight clothing and applying cool, wet cloths or towels to the skin
- Apply ice or cold packs, wrapped in a cloth, to the wrists, ankles, groin, neck, and armpits
- Call 911 immediately or transport to the hospital
