Every year, thousands of farm workers are injured and hundreds more die in farming accidents. The rate of fatalities in agriculture continues to decline, but it still remains the highest of any industry sector. According to the National Safety Council, agriculture is the most hazardous industry in the nation.

Iowa State University strives to make all of the farms overseen by the university the safest work places possible. All farms overseen by Iowa State University are managed by university faculty, staff, and students who must adhere to any and all OSHA regulations and/or standards pertaining to work-related operations. Failure to do so may result in violation citations and monetary fines.
