At Iowa State University, Environmental Health and Safety carries out the responsibilities of the Radiation Safety Committee to ensure that all users of ionizing radiation are in compliance with regulatory requirements and university policies, such that any radiation exposures are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). These objectives are accomplished through a comprehensive radiation safety program that includes: continuous accountability of materials and devices, radiation safety training, laboratory waste processing, personnel exposure monitoring and the safe shipment of materials.
