Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standard (CFATS) - Chemical Security

On June 8, 2007, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued the final rule of its “Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standard” (CFATS), also known as 6 CFR, Part 27.  The purpose of the Standard is to determine where certain chemicals of interest (COI) exist and whether additional security measures are required due to a perceived security threat from their release, theft or diversion, or sabotage.

This rule applies to any university building that may possess any of the COI found on the DHS-provided list, known as Appendix A.

To assist Iowa State University in compliance, please submit annual departmental chemical inventories to EH&S.

If you have any questions, you may contact EH&S at 294-5359.
