Each year hundreds of people are injured or die as a result of entering into confined spaces that contain unknown hazards. Most of these deaths could have been prevented if the entrants had been trained to recognize confined space hazards and had followed a plan for entry into confined spaces.

The Confined Spaces Manual outlines appropriate practices, university policies and regulatory requirements that must be followed when entering confined spaces on the Iowa State University campus. Confined Space Entry training is required for all personnel prior to participating in any confined space entries and is provided by EH&S several times a year.
