Environmental Programs

EH&S is responsible for the development and implementation of proper management practices for all hazardous materials and chemical wastes at Iowa State University. To fulfill this responsibility, the following functions are coordinated by EH&S:

  • Development and implementation of policies for Iowa State University.
  • Preparation of applications for federal, state and local permits to generate and dispose of hazardous chemicals and applicable wastes.
  • Assurance that university policies and regulatory guidelines regarding the disposal of hazardous chemical wastes are followed.
  • Preparation, submittal and maintenance of records, reports and manifests, as required by regulations.
  • Design, implementation and auditing of management practice and disposal procedures for chemical waste materials.
  • Operation of government-licensed hazardous waste handling and treatment facilities for Iowa State University.
  • Development and coordination of programs that minimize the generation of hazardous wastes.
  • Management of response to emergency chemical releases in cooperation with local hazardous material response teams and other emergency responders.
