Smoke-Free Campus Boundaries Maps
The Smokefree Air Act, Iowa Code Chapter 142D, effective July 1, 2008, applies to Iowa State University. The legislation applies to the entire university grounds and properties and prohibits smoking in any buildings, outdoor areas, parking lots, farms, Veenker Golf Course, and sports arenas such as Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum. Smoking is also prohibited in all university vehicles, including farm trucks, tractors, and implements as well as all privately owned vehicles when operated or parked on the grounds of the university.
In an effort to assist in understanding where the boundaries of the main campus grounds are located, the following descriptions and maps are provided.
City streets and sidewalks that form a boundary to the university are not included in the grounds of the university, therefore a person is permitted to smoke on the sidewalk next to those city streets. However, institutional streets within the campus are considered university grounds and smoking is not permitted along those streets.
College of Veterinary Medicine Area (map)
Smoking is permitted on the walk/bike paths located on the west side of University Boulevard and on the bike path east of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Smoking is permitted on the walks located on the north side of Lincoln Way and east side of Sheldon Avenue. Smoking is also permitted on the walks on the west side of Sheldon Avenue and north side of West Street along the property of ISU commonly known as parking lot 7.
Smoking is permitted on the walks/bike paths located on the north and south sides of Lincoln Way, west side of University Boulevard and east side of Beach Avenue.
Smoking is permitted on the walk located on the north side of Lincoln Way. Smoking is also permitted on the walk on the south side of Lincoln Way and east side of Ash Avenue on the property of Buchanan Hall.
Schilletter/University Village Area (map)
Smoking is permitted on the walk/bike path on the south side of 24th Street.
Smoking is permitted on the walks/bike paths located on the west side of University Boulevard, the east side of Beach Avenue and the north side of Mortenson Parkway. Smoking is also permitted on the walk/bike path on the north side of South Fourth Street east of University Boulevard.
Stange Road and 13th Street Area (map)
Smoking is permitted on the walk/bike path located on the south side of 13th Street west of Stange Road.
Towers Residence Hall Area (map)
Smoking is permitted on the walks/bike paths located on the south side of Storm Street, north side of Mortenson Road, and a small segment of walk at the northern end of Hayward Avenue.
