Pandemic Flu Preparedness
Iowa State University officials continue to carefully monitor the spread of the contagious H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu. The university is taking the situation seriously and encourages community members to take basic precautions to protect their health. University administrators, including members of ISU's Pandemic Flu Task Force, are keeping a close eye on developments across the country and around the world and are prepared to respond, should additional steps be necessary.
The university will continue to keep students, faculty, staff, and parents updated on H1N1 developments via the Iowa State homepage.
Protect Yourself from the Flu
The Centers for Disease Control recommends people take these everyday actions to stay healthy:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people, and if you are sick, stay home.
